Plenty of blackberry, blackcurrant, chocolate and flint aromas that follow through to a full body, yet it’s in check and focused with a beautiful framing of fine tannins. The purity of ripe fruit is impressive with cabernet really showing through. 63% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 5% petit verdot and 2% cabernet franc.

65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot. The Domaine de Chevalier's woodiness is evident, but leaves room for notes of black berries, liquorice and garrigue, which create a balance between fruit, freshness and maturity. On the palate, the wine is juicy in the attack, then broadens as it progresses. Its tannins, together with its acidity, underline its strength and temperament. The wine is salivating... and it's a good omen when the tannins underline the salivating side of a wine; it means that they are well integrated and that their main task is to ensure the future. Sooner or later, the woodiness will come through, even in the finish, but this in no way detracts from the excellent level of the wine! 2028-2048

The 2023 Domaine de Chevalier reveals a perfumed, incipiently complex bouquet of dark wild berries, cassis, rose petals, spices and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and rich, with a fleshy core of fruit framed by powdery tannins and bright acids, it concludes with a long, saline, gently oak-inflected finish. This blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc is maturing in 40% new barrels. 2025 - 2045. Yohan Castaing

Domaine de Chevalier consistently showcases the purebred character of Cabernet Sauvignon on the Pessac-Léognan terroir. Its understated aromas always carry the traditional essence of Bordeaux, along with a calmness and composure that many classified estates lack. The 2023 vintage prominently features aromas of black tea and orange peel, surrounded by cherries and pomegranates, exuding a fresh elegance. The use of oak barrels for toasting is skillfully managed, perfectly harmonizing with the graphite and pencil lead towards the finish. The only aspect to watch is the texture of the tannins, with the vintage comprising 65% Cabernet Sauvignon. If the tannins can remain supple with aging, this Domaine de Chevalier will be a slow-burning surprise that delights.
