Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux 2023
Bordeaux Primeur | Margaux AC
Second wine of a Premier Grand Cru Classé, Pavillon Rouge from Château Margaux is an aromatic and elegant wine. Its quality is close to that of the first wine because the plots that make it up all participated, not so long ago, in the blending of Château Margaux.

97 100James SucklingVery Chateau Margaux, with perfumed violets, currants and other berries, as well as oranges. Medium body with fine, caressing tannins that are tight and vivid. Racy and refined. Brightness and beauty to this second wine. Succulent. Refined. One of the best Pavillon Rouges in a while. 30% of the production. 79% cabernet sauvignon, 14% merlot, 5% petit verdot and 2% cabernet franc.

96 100Yves Beck79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc The bouquet of Pavillon rouge reveals notes of red berries, often synonymous with freshness. The texture is silky and elegant. The tannins are velvety, powerful and subtly austere, in harmony with the acidity. An accomplished, serious and harmonious Pavillon, with finesse and freshness as a leitmotif. 2027-2043

95 100Jean-Marc QuarinDark, intense purple colour. Very aromatic, fine, clean, fruity nose. Full-bodied on the palate, fleshy in the middle, with a lot of flavour, the wine evolves into a juicy, precise, airy and structured wine. A very fine, aromatic finish with enveloping tannins. Blend: 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot. Alcohol content: 13° 3 - pH: 3.6. Yield: 41 hl/ha. 30% of the harvest.

94 100Alexandre MaThe 2023 Pavillon Rouge displays a softness that sends shivers down my spine. As it moistens the tip of the tongue, it feels like three pieces of Chinese Milk Candies melting simultaneously, quite unbeliveable for a wine with 79% Cabernet Sauvignon. The elusive scents of iris and violet are captivating, draping the milky body in a purple veil, light and tender. This is the poignant moment that Pavillon Rouge has left me with in 2023, a second-label wine capable of awakening your temporal memories.
A beautiful dark, intense purple red, with purplish reflections.
Aromas of raspberry, blackberry and blackcurrant, followed by nuances of rose petals.
A soft and sensual wine, with a velvety texture, immediately opening onto a frenetic acid structure offering a round mouth with hints given by the Petit Verdot. A very fragrant, vibrant wine with excellent aromatic deployment and so much freshness. Balanced between austerity and softness, between richness and delicacy, between acidity and structure. Expressive and persistent. A real vintage of character!
Grilled filet mignon, lamb baron, roast poultry, hunting specialties (bison), brie, camembert.

The vines, inclined on a gentle slope in a sort of amphitheater, are established on a gravelly and clayey ridge of fluvial origin (abundant gravel at the top, the bottom of the ridge being composed of limestone and finer elements due to runoff) .
