Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2023

Bordeaux Primeur | Cru Classé de Graves, Pessac-Léognan AC

The Mission takes its name from the “priests of the Mission” who cultivated the Château’s vines at the time. According to Robert Parker, "The Mission has long been one of the best wines and one of the most consistent qualitatively speaking." Certainly the most mysterious wine of the Haut-Brion lineage!

The classy mouth-feel and length to this is really gorgeous, and it seduces you with its texture of fine silk and finesse. Lasts for a long, long time. Medium body with medium, creamy and round tannins and a layered, textured finish. Shows blackcurrants, lead pencil and crushed stone at the end. 52.7% merlot, 29.6% cabernet sauvignon and 17.7% cabernet franc.

Dark, intense purple colour. The nose is very aromatic, fine, clean, subtle and floral, becoming more intense as the glass is shaken. Smooth on the palate, with a fine body comparable to a dry white wine, it melts in the mouth. It gains in body from the middle to the end and finishes long and subtle, with complex flavours. It's both very good and very different among Bordeaux reds. Blend: 52.7% Merlot, 29.6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17.7% Cabernet Franc. Alcohol content: 14°5 - pH: 3.78 - IPT: 73. Yield: 55 hl/ha.

The 2023 La Mission Haut-Brion unwinds in the glass to reveal aromas of ripe red fruits, dark wild berries, spring flowers, burning embers and lilac. Medium to full-bodied, rich and concentrated, it’s layered and textural with a dense core of fruit underpinned by youthfully firm structuring tannins. This blend of 52.7% Merlot, 29.6% Cabernet Sauvignon and 17.7% Cabernet Franc its likely to become fleshier and more enveloping with barrel maturation. 2025 - 2055. Yohan Castaing

<strong>Colour</strong>
Colour

Intense purple red, with violet reflections.

<strong>Nose</strong>
Nose

Intense aromas of red and black fruits, such as raspberry and blackberry, followed by scents of Havana, roasting culminating in a very pretty woodiness.

<strong>Palate</strong>
Palate

The mouth begins with a great sensation of sweetness, then the wine broadens and invades us. From that moment on, the very mature tannins take over, giving the full measure of the great concentration of this wine.
