Château Ferrière 2023
Bordeaux Primeur | 3rd Cru Classé, Margaux AC
With its 20 hectares of vines, Château Ferrière had one of the smallest Crus Classés vineyards in 1855. Today, Claire Villars-Lurton is the architect of this revival. She works with the greatest finesse to reveal in her wine the exceptional terroir that constitutes the Château Ferrière vineyard. The wine is certified in Organic Agriculture and biodynamics (Demeter and Biodyvin).

95 100James SucklingVery pure fruit here, showing blackberries and black cherries, as well as hints of walnuts. Medium body. The tannins are fine-grained and well integrated. I like the concentration on the center-palate and the freshness on the finish. It’s structured and long, with lively fruit and a hint of salt at the end. Minerally. 68% cabernet sauvignon, 28% merlot, 3.5% petit verdot and 0.5% cabernet franc. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification

94 100Alexandre MaImagine a woman 1.8 meters tall with skin as soft as snow cream—that’s the vision Château Ferrière presented in the 2023 vintage. Perhaps due to atmospheric pressure, my first tasting felt somewhat closed off, but the second tasting fully revealed Château Ferrière’s true character. The scents of hyacinth and sour plum paste are bursting forth, accompanied by the sweet aromas of caramel and cappuccino swirling on the palate. The tannins in the finish have a bit of temperament, creating a captivating “approach-avoidance” sensation.

94 100Yves Beck68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 3.5% Petit Verdot, 0.5% Cabernet Franc. A very intense, fruity bouquet with notes of elderberry and blackberry, complemented by a refreshing hint of garrigue. Juicy from the start, the Ferrière is dense and linear. Its tannins are velvety and well integrated. A sapid, persistent wine that deserves to evolve. 2028-2040

92 100ParkerThe 2023 Ferrière is a strong effort, bursting with aromas of dark berries, spices and boot polish, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered palate with a broad attack, good depth at the core and sweet structuring tannins. It's a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 3.5% Petit Verdot and a touch of Cabernet Franc. William Kelley
A beautiful dark red with almost black reflections.
Concentrated, with fruity, spicy aromas coated with mineral notes.
Beautiful creamy structure, with fine, compact, powerful tannins in phase with the salivating and juicy character of the acid structure. With a harmonious and persistent finish.
Game terrine, Périgord salad, morel puff pastry, fondue bourguignonne, rack of lamb with garlic, roasted partridge with chestnuts, pear tart.
Serving temperature: 16 - 18°C
A large part of the Château Ferrière vines grow in the center of the appellation on a plateau of deep white gravel. This soil, which is not very rich and drains, favors the deep rooting of the vines and the concentration of the grapes. In 2015, Château Ferrière obtained Organic Agriculture certification. Since 2018, the property has been certified biodynamic (Demeter and Biodyvin).
The winemaking cellar was renovated in 2013 by the famous Bordeaux architect Fabien Pédelaborde. Château Ferrière is vinified in concrete vats, using traditional methods. It vats for 18-22 days, before resting for 18 months in French oak barrels (40% new wood, 40% wine barrels and 20% in ovoid vats).
