Château Bellevue 2023
Bordeaux Primeur | Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé
The year 2023 started with a classic winter, followed by a wet and warm spring, which gave way to a sunny and dry summer. The location of the Château Bellevue vines allowed efficient drainage of the plots, combined with a saving wind throughout the season. The first week of September was marked by strong heat, favoring the ripening of all the berries. The harvest period extended throughout the month of September: an à la carte harvest, following numerous tastings of the grape berries in the rows of vines.

96 100Yves BeckBellevue reveals itself gradually and delicately, with depth and subtlety, through floral and fruity nuances. Hints of graphite, cherry and peony. The palate is precise and elegant, with a balance between power and finesse. An elegant, persistent Bellevue with powdery tannins and a chalky finish. 2028-2043

95 100DecanterGorgeous floral and ripe fruit aromatics leap from the glass, leading to a palate of both juiciness and wet stone minimality. The excellent clay and limestone terroir from this three-hectare vineyard reveals refinement and elegance. The estate took time to carefully pick only the very best Merlots, and it shows in the glass. A wonderful wine in this vintage that proves how Merlot can be successful in 2023!

95 100Alexandre MaWhen I tasted the 2022 vintage, I said, “Château Bellevue has entered a new era.” In the 2023 vintage, it truly showcases its terroir’s potential during the flower-blooming season. The floral aromas are not just beautiful but also delicate, like the scent of iris and peony gently lifting the entire wine, immersing you in a dreamy world of flowers. The palate is delicate, like chilled fresh milk, yet refined, with a noble saline touch that adds depth. Combined with the soft purple hue reminiscent of silk embroidery, it resembles a luxurious floral pattern in Suzhou embroidery, where each thread appears vividly lifelike.

93 100James SucklingA juicy and flavorful wine already. Medium-bodied and chewy, yet fresh. Lots of blackberry. It’s structured and fleshy considering the vintage. Pure merlot.
Complex bouquet, with subtle floral notes.
In the mouth, the use of punching down as well as a thoughtful addition of whole bunches help to enhance the natural tension of this believed. The palate is airy, elegant and saline, faithful to the identity of the clay-limestone terroir of Château Bellevue.
