Domaine de Sarraux-Dessous

The first known traces of the estate date back to the 12th century and to the independent commune of Serraux, which included a castle and a court of law. For more than twenty years, Eric Barbay has tended this vineyard in one piece, located around the Sarraux-Dessous residence. The estate's cellars produce different Chasselas, a Savagnin Blanc, three red wines and an original Rosé.

A very old place

A very old place

The first written trace of the estate dates from 1145 and designates the commune of Serraux, then independent of its neighbor Begnins. Its name comes from Low Latin and means “enclosure, fence”.

Les Serraux included a castle in Serraux-Dessus and a court of justice in Serraux-Dessus. The town gradually fell into ruin and died out in 1616. It was therefore attached to Begnins.

Today, only two old winegrowers' houses remain: the Serreaux-Dessus and Sarraux-Dessous estates. The habit sets in to spell differently these vestiges of one and the same commune.

The modern era

The Domaine de Sarraux-Dessous passed through the hands of several Bernese families before being sold in 1932 to the current owners. Since this date, the wines have been marketed by the company Bolle SA.

Today, the vines of Domaine de Sarraux-Dessous cover 18 hectares, entirely located in the Luins appellation area. The vines, in one piece, surround the beautiful residence, several centuries old.

More alive than ever

The current wine manager, Eric Barbay, arrived in November 2001. He works the vines while respecting the environment, and brings the estate to life by offering various events throughout the year.

All the wines sold under the name of Sarraux-Dessous are vinified on the estate, in the immense period cellars, and their large oak barrels which refine the vintages until bottling.

Chasselas – also in the Special Reserve – reigns supreme, as often in its canton of origin. But the assortment is complete, with a Savagnin Blanc, a Rosé and three red wines: Gamay, Pinot Noir and Garanoir.

The commune fell into ruin and died out in 1616. It was attached to Begnins. The Domaine de Sarraux-Dessous was sold in 1932 to the current owners and the wines were marketed by the Bolle SA company.
The vineyard covers 18 hectares. Eric Barbay has been wine manager since 2001. He works the vines while respecting the environment, and offers various events throughout the year. Sarraux-Dessous wines are vinified on site. The assortment includes two Chasselas, a Savagnin Blanc, a Rosé, a Gamay, a Pinot Noir and a Garanoir.
