Alta Yari

The Alta-Yarí estate is a new quality player in the Argentine wine landscape. It was born from a collaboration between the Schenk Group and Hervé J. Fabre, a Bordeaux native involved in numerous projects in Argentina. Located in Gualtallary, one of the country's most renowned terroirs, Alta-Yarí immediately impressed with the high quality of its wines, right from its first vintage in 2018.

A Bordelais in Argentina

A Bordelais in Argentina

Hervé J. Fabre, born and educated in Bordeaux into a family of wine merchants, discovered the potential of Argentine terroirs in the early 1990s. He contributed to the rise of Malbec, which has become the country's flagship grape variety.

Since his arrival, Hervé has developed a deep knowledge of the terroirs in the Mendoza region, the country's main wine-growing area, and more specifically of the Uco Valley, at the foot of the Andes mountains.

A district apart

The northern tip of the Uco Valley is formed by the Tupungato department, named after an extinct volcano with eternal snows peaking at over 6,500 meters. Within this area, one district stands out.

It bears the melodious name of Gualtallary and has been making a name for itself since the 1990s when renowned estates planted vines there. The high quality of this terroir was immediately evident in the wines.

The soils, difficult to work, are composed of a wide variety of rocks. Limestone, rare elsewhere in the country, gives Gualtallary wines freshness and delicacy, increasingly sought-after qualities.

The Alta-Yarí vineyards are spread out between 1350 and almost 1600 meters of altitude, which helps to counteract the low latitude of the region. Thanks to the temperature differences, the ripe grapes retain their freshness.

A thorough study of the estate's soils and microclimates allowed Hervé J. Fabre to optimally match the plots to the different grape varieties. Thus, each of Alta-Yarí's wines conveys the Gualtallary terroir.
