The Pledge Our Old Vines Chenin Blanc
White wine | Stellenbosch
Follow Chenin to its new country!
Chenin Blanc, born along the Loire, has found an adoptive home in South Africa. The Pledge comes from a vineyard planted in 1983. Its old vines reveal a white wine with intense aromas of lemon zest, pineapple and white flowers, with undertones of barrel ageing. The palate is complex and crisp while also being deliciously spicy. A Chenin not to be missed!

A symphony awaits you, with notes of cooked apple, melon, honey and toasted macadamia nuts, all enhanced with a delicious touch of vanilla.
This vineyard of 1.76 ha of old vines was planted in 1983 on granite soils. The soil is gravel and sand with clay underneath. The vineyard is planted in an east-west direction. Drip irrigation helps reduce water stress before and after harvest and thus preserve flavors and aromas.
After harvesting by hand, the grapes remain in the press overnight, allowing a small percentage of the raisins to swell. During pressing, these berries burst and release aromas of honey. After two days of settling, the juice is fermented in stainless steel vats at a temperature of around 15-17°C. No malolactic fermentation is carried out in order to preserve the freshness of the wine. Only the best barrels are then selected to be blended two months before bottling.

The Pledge
The Pledge wishes to offer the best expression of South Africa's emblematic grape varieties, each on its preferred terroirs. The selection of plots, between maritime influences, altitude and exposure, then the tailor-made aging at the estate are intended to sublimate each vintage and offer the quintessence of Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc or even Pinotage made in AfSud.
