Fidenzio, Montefalco Rosso
Red wine | Montefalco DOC
Discovering the robust Sagrantino, surrounded by his friends!
This red blend is a variation on the Sagrantino theme. The strong, very tannic local grape variety is associated with the majority Sangiovese, and a little supple Merlot. The result ? A red wine of character, with superior freshness and a well-measured structure. A happy union under the patronage of San Fidenzio, bishop and martyr, who gave his name to an abbey built around the year 1000 in the region.

The Montefalco terroir is characterized by an altitude of 300 to 400 meters above sea level. The soils are moderately clayey and sandy. Tudernum dedicated this wine to San Fidenzio, a bishop and martyr whose name was also given to an abbey built around the year 1000 near a Roman road that divided the territories of Todi and Massa Martana.
From the union between the power of Sangiovese (70%) and Sagrantino (15%) and the sweetness of Merlot (15%) our Montefalco Rosso is born, the result of a happy marriage and the desire to create a variation on the theme of Sagrantino. The grapes are vinified separately, and blended only when placed in small oak barrels. Fermentation in small steel vats at controlled temperature (around 28°C). Maceration times for the skins vary from 18 to 22 days. Finally, the wine is put into French oak barrels where it will age for approximately 12 months.
