Notes of eucalyptus and spices. Magnificent fruity with a nice roundness.

Palate

A vintage revealing a seduction full of restraint, but full of elegance. Velvety tannins meet great freshness in a supple balance. One that charms us with its superb qualities.

Wine-growing terroir

Les Pagodes de Cos is, strictly speaking, the second wine of Cos d'Estournel. The vines which produce it will give in a few years the Grand Cru Classé of 1855. They belong to the same terroir and receive the same care. They are simply younger and their roots go less deeply into the gravel soil.

Winemaking

Aged for 12 months in stave oak barrels, 50 to 60% of which is new wood.

Yves Beck Fine and subtle bouquet with spicy and fruity nuances. Pleasant notes of licorice wood, black berries and pepper followed by a touch of graphite. On the palate the wine is creamy and ample. It has precise tannins, which reveal themselves slowly and which ensure good cellaring with the structure. The latter gives temperament to the wine and supports the aromatic expression. Fruity and mineral notes (graphite) on the finish, persistent and good intensity finish. 2024-2037.

James Suckling This is really minerally and salty with spices, such as cloves. Full-bodied, yet tight and beautiful. Chewy, yet focused and bright. Very integrated. Hard not to drink.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate The 2019 Les Pagodes de Cos (14.03% alcohol) is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc, aging in 20% new barrels. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, notions of wild blueberries, boysenberries and redcurrant jelly come bounding out of the glass, followed by a profound core of warm cassis, licorice and bouquet garni with a touch of cinnamon stick. Medium to full-bodied, the palate bursts with bright, expressive black and red fruit flavors, framed by firm, fine-grained tannins and loads of freshness, finishing on a spicy lingering note.

Jean-Marc Quarin My best score given to this vintage in Primeur on par with the 2018. Dark, intense and beautiful color. Very aromatic nose, with ripe, subtle and spicy fruitiness. Ample from the start on the palate, with a juicy body in the middle, energy and tactile class, the wine finishes long, tasty, with noble tannins. It's very good. Blend: 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot. Alcohol content: 14°03 – pH: 3.74 – IPT: 67. 2027 – 2045.
