Nose

Notes of eucalyptus and spices. Magnificent fruity with a nice roundness.

Palate

A vintage revealing a seduction full of restraint, but full of elegance. Velvety tannins meet great freshness in a supple balance. One that charms us with its superb qualities.

Wine-growing region

Les Pagodes de Cos is, strictly speaking, the second wine of Cos d'Estournel. The vines which produce it will give in a few years the Grand Cru Classé of 1855. They belong to the same terroir and receive the same care. They are simply younger and their roots go less deeply into the gravel soil.

Winemaking

Aged for 12 months in stave oak barrels, 50 to 60% of which is new wood.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate The 2018 Les Pagodes de Cos (14.51% alcohol) is a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc, aging in 20% new barrels. Deep garnet-purple in color, it bursts from the glass with bold notions of Morello cherries, blackcurrant pastilles, plum preserves and spice cake with suggestions of pencil shavings and bouquet garni. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with spicy black fruits, framed by velvety tannins and seamless freshness, finishing on a lingering savory note. Drink date 2022 - 2036. James Suckling Pure aromas of currants, plums, cherries and Spanish cedar follow through to a full body with super concentration of fruit, yet forever polished and long. A cylinder of wonderfully ripe fruit and tannins goes on for minutes. This needs at least three or four years to soften and begin to come together. Great second wine. Try after 2027.

Yves Beck Filigree, complex bouquet, revealing notes of cherries and roasted nuances. Juicy and silky character on the palate where the wine has a beautiful tannic structure with very fine grains. Fruity and persistent finish. An excellent Pagoda that you can already enjoy in your youth. 2022-2035

Jean-Marc Quarin Dark, intense and purple color. Very aromatic and powerful nose, with very ripe, sunny and sanguine fruitiness. Dense and powerful upon entry into the mouth, very aromatic, with a creamy touch, the wine evolves both suave and a bit austere (woody) in the persistence. Then it regains its aroma at the very end of the palate. Much too young.
