Wine-growing terroir

The Côte-Rôtie appellation is made up of 330 hectares. The hillsides are most often oriented to the south. They are thus sheltered from the north wind and exposed to the hot southerly wind. This orientation helps reduce the presence of diseases. The altitude is between 180 and 325 meters.

Winemaking

The most beautiful clusters are selected. The grapes are harvested in perforated crates and undergo cold pre-fermentation maceration in a cold room in order to extract the aromas and tannins. Then the vinification takes place in oak barrels (new or a single wine) and the aging continues in the same barrels for a minimum of 18 months.

The Michelas St Jemms estate produces wines from 4 prestigious appellations in the northern Rhône valley: Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Cornas. Created in 1961, the family estate is today run by 4 brothers and sisters. The entire vineyard has been certified “High Environmental Value” since 2014 and has initiated a process of conversion to Organic Agriculture (AB).
