Domaine de Chevalier 2017
Red wine | Cru Classé de Graves Pessac-Léognan AC
More than a Château, an Estate!
The 2017 vintage, marked by frost, reveals a deep and aromatic red wine, with a lot of personality, promised to evolve well. But why ''Domaine'', rather than ''Château''? Unusual in Bordeaux, this term refers to a time when people lived on a large estate, between outbuildings, woods, and varied agricultural land. Today it still signals a global vision, which goes beyond the vineyard, but which is at its service!

94 100DecanterThis stands out among many of the Pessacs this year, with plenty of depth on evidence, and a more obvious personality than most. The liquorice root, cigar and grilled almond notes are perfectly woven through the cassis and bilberry fruit, and here you can feel a slight ripple through the palate, while the tannins have presence and are alive. This feels poised, like it can stretch its wings and go the distance. A great job in this vintage. Drinking Window 2025 - 2040

93 100Yves BeckPurplish purple. Bouquet of good intensity with notes of blackcurrant and raspberries. When aerated I also notice the management as well as a touch of cinnamon. Tasty, juicy attack. On the palate the wine has fat, body and fine-grained tannins. They are slightly sweet and reveal themselves at the end of the mouth. Good aromatic intensity, smooth touch of tannins and fruity finish. To be continued. 2024–2042

93 100James SucklingThis is really delicious and round with soft and ripe tannins. Full body and juicy fruit. Shows ripeness and balance. A pretty wine to watch for the future.
Dark purple, with purplish reflections.
Aromas of blackcurrant and raspberry evolving towards notes of licorice and a touch of cinnamon.
It shows itself with fat, body and fine-grained, slightly suave tannins which open up at the end of the palate. Finish of beautiful aromatic intensity.
The Chevalier terroir, with its poor and complex soils, owes its characteristics to the forest that surrounds it. This environment creates a greenhouse effect during hot periods, favoring the ripening of the grapes and increases the risk of frost during cold periods.
Gentle fermentation at controlled temperature, maceration for 15 to 25 days, malolactic fermentation in new barrels, aging for 14 to 24 months in oak barrels including 40 to 60% new wood.
