Cos d'Estournel 2010
Red wine | 2nd Cru Classé, Saint-Estèphe AOC
Like a solitary adventurer having sailed across the seas, Cos d'Estournel seems at first secret and intriguing. Then it reveals itself, slowly. Step by step, in small touches, he evokes stories of distant cities, of markets with a thousand secrets, of joyful celebrations in villages with hot stones, of women with voluptuous curves.

99 100Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateDeep garnet in color, the 2010 Cos d'Estournel unfurls slowly, measuredly, releasing delicate notes of dried mulberries, stewed plums and blackcurrant pastilles before giving way to notions of potpourri, black cherry compote and chocolate box plus touches of dried sage, tobacco and new leather. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a rock-solid foundation of very firm, grainy tannins and very lively acidity supporting the remarkable intensity of tightly wound fruit layers, finishing very long and fragrant. Give it another 4-5 years in bottle and this will be stunning! Drink date 2024 - 2060. Lisa Perrotti-Brown

98 100James SucklingThere's clarity and beauty to this wine as always with pure dark berry, stones and spices. Some clove too. Full body, firm and silky tannins and a long finish. Pure and precise wine with so much class. Try in 2020.

96 100Jean-Marc QuarinDark, intense, beautiful and purple color. Moderately aromatic nose, with pure and fresh fruitiness. Soft on the attack, very tasty in the mid-palate, particularly present, a tad austere, with a “nutty” woodiness, the wine finishes long, complex and with taste, energy and a beautiful tannic envelope.
Dark red with purplish reflections.
Magnificent bouquet with aromas of blackberries, licorice wood, gingerbread and Sichuan pepper.
Velvety entry into the mouth, beautiful body, powerful, fine-grained tannins, fresh and lively structure, fruity finish, spicy and persistent.
The word "Cos" means, in old Gascon, "the hill of stones". The Cos hill stands on the banks of the Gironde, an impressive pile of gravel, deposited on the limestone base of Saint-Estèphe.
Vatting for 21 days at controlled temperature, aging for 18 months in oak barrels, 80% of which is new wood.
