The Mähler-Besse family, established in Bordeaux since the end of the 19th century, knows the Saint-Émilion terroir perfectly, where it acquired Château Cheval Noir in 1937. A Saint-Émilion which offers very pure aromas of red fruits and spices, and a graceful palate, with a silky texture, with an elegant and fresh finish.

Wine-growing terroir

Mähler-Besse

Fréderik Mähler, of Dutch origin, settled in Bordeaux in 1892 in the fine wine and spirits trade. The Mähler-Besse family, which came to Saint-Émilion following the takeover of Château Cheval Noir in 1937, consolidated its presence in 1992 with the acquisition of Château La Couronne to produce the “Cheval Noir” wines.
