On one of the largest estates in the Saint-Julien appellation, Talbot shines with its consistency. A reassuring red wine that never disappoints! This 2019 is very aromatic, with notes of blackberries, blueberries, dark chocolate and peppermint. Without any excess, it shows a perfect balance between finesse and power. Structured and perfectly mastered, it is a Saint-Julien that is simply unmissable!

Wine-growing region

The Saint-Julien appellation is located in the heart of the Médoc vineyard. The 900 hectares of vines form a rectangle along the Gironde estuary, on one of the most homogeneous terroirs of all the Médoc appellations. The soils are composed of ridges of Garonne gravel which become siliceous further to the west and which allows natural drainage which is perfectly suited to growing the vines.

Winemaking

Manual harvest, aging for 16 months in oak barrels, 50% of which is new wood.

Decanter Talbot has produced an elegant, fresh and carefully structured 2017. This has plenty of finesse and rich black fruit flavors with some floral notes and cedar. It shows great St-Julien balance, but again just lacks a little of the impact that has been evident at this property over recent vintages. Drinking Window 2024 - 2038

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Talbot is a little closed on the nose with subtle plums and blackberries notes plus hints of underbrush, black olives and wood smoke. Medium-bodied with a firm frame of chewy tannins, it has lovely freshness and a savory finish.

Château Talbot

Planted on gravelly ridges, the Talbot vineyard with an area of 105 ha owes its name to an English warrior, governor of Guyenne and defeated in 1453 during the Battle of Castillon. Since 1918, the Cordier family has perpetuated the production of excellent quality wines.
