Château Pontet-Canet 2013
Red wine | 5th Cru Classé, Pauillac AC
In Pontet-Canet, the return to nature involves incessant risk-taking, an evolution supported by real faith and deep passion.
What is immediately striking is the energy that emanates from these wines. They express tension and intensity: they appear vibrant, as if freed from all constraints.

91 100Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateA blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, this biodynamically farmed vineyard (a rarity, but increasing in the Bordeaux viticulture), had tiny yields of 15 hectoliters per hectare. This doesn't translate into super concentration, but this is certainly an outstanding effort in an extremely difficult vintage. The wine has a dense purple color, and classic creme de cassis, licorice and mocha and espresso roast notes that Pontet-Canet has displayed recently. The wine is medium-bodied, possesses excellent purity, balance and sweetness, but noticeable tannin. This is by no means at the level of the great vintages that have been so common of late from this incredible property on the Plateau of Pauillac across from Mouton Rothschild, but it's certainly one of the vintage's more noteworthy efforts. Give it 2-3 years of bottle age and drink it over the following 15 or so years.
Deep and intense.
Refined with complex aromas of ripe black fruits and toasted and vanilla notes.
Delicious and rich, the attack is full and its structure elegant and fine.
Duck breast, grilled langoustine, entrecôte, roast meats, roast hare fillets, Beaufort, Epoisses.
Serving temperature: 16 - 18°C
The lands of Château Pontet-Canet are located in the heart of the Pauillac appellation. Here it is the poverty of the earth which serves as a matrix. The soil seems to consist only of gravel and sand, and it is difficult to imagine that vines could grow there. The 120 ha of the vineyard are made up of a ridge of Garonne gravel, on a limestone base. These plots are managed biodynamically.
Vinification for 4 weeks, aging for 16 to 20 months in barrels, 60% of which is new wood.
