Colour

Dark and intense purple.

Nose

Aromas of blackberry and plum, followed by notes of undergrowth and truffle.

Palate

Linear and precise structure, moderately concentrated, juicy and ample, silky tannins, aromatic finish of pleasant length.

Wine-growing terroir

The vineyards of Château Phélan Ségur are located in the eastern part of the commune of Saint-Estèphe and border the estuary of the Garonne river. The soils are made up of pebbles and especially gravel coated with clayey sand.

Winemaking

Maceration for 20 to 30 days in steel vats, aging for 14 to 18 months in oak barrels, 50% of which is new wood.

James Suckling Bright and perfumed with some chocolate, berry sandalwood and cedar. Very elegant and fine, medium to full-bodied palate with very integrated tannins and refined, polished texture. The tannins melt into the wine. Long finish with serious structure. Vivid and refined. Class here. Very Bordeaux.

Terre de Vins Phélan and its four islets of terroir find a complete, rich profile, notably thanks to the presence, for the first year, of the four grape varieties of the appellation: petit verdot, even at 2%, adds to the complexity and richness aromatic, the cabernet franc gives even more momentum. The inky color, the chiselled, sapid material, deliver aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant and violet. In the mid-palate, you bite into the coffee bean. In the finish, precise, tasty tannins complete a well-defined identity profile. The wine, built on finesse and elegance, offers obvious development and aging potential. Really very interesting.

Decanter The austerity to the tannins works in this wine's favor giving a juicy grip to the concentrated blackcurrant and bilberry fruits without strangling them. Excellent stuff, finishing up with liquorice and smoked coffee bean. This is an estate that has just powered to better and better wines over the past few years. Yields were 10% below the average of the past five years but still at 40hl/ha. Harvest September 16 through to October 1, finishing around 10 days earlier than the past two years. Consultants Michel Rolland and Julien Viaud. First vintage with Petit Verdot included in the main wine (2%), from vines planted in 2013. Tasted twice.

Die kraftvollen and robustn Tannine sorgen für einen vollmundigen Charakter am Gaumen. Die Säurestruktur sorgt wiederum für die notwendige Lebendigkeit. Ein Wein, der seinen hervorragegenden Vorgängerjahrgängen 2018 und 2019 ebenbürtig ist. Er ist köstlich, einladend and absolute überzeugend. 2027-2045 94-96/100
