Château Mouton Rothschild 2011
Red wine | Premier Cru Classé, Pauillac AC
Often, the men and women who "make" Mouton succeed one another from generation to generation, passing on ancestral know-how which is enriched, over the years, with the addition of the most modern techniques. This is how it is, always different depending on the vintage, but always the same – witness its legendary blackcurrant flavor! – and always at the top, the Château well deserves its motto: “Mouton ne change”.

95 100Wine SpectatorThis delivers a gorgeously pure beam of cassis and cherry compote, with singed apple wood, graphite and iron notes hanging in the background for now. Long and polished through the finish, showing serious depth in reserve. Best from 2018 through 2035. –JM

94 100James SucklingThis is now a little tight but shows firmness and raciness with pretty austerity. Full and tight with silky tannins and a long, fresh finish. Firm acidity is holding it back. Needs two or three years to open. Better in 2018.
Black color, with purple reflections.
Very nice freshness. Floral and fruity notes (blackcurrant and blackberry). Cedar tip.
Balanced and refined, with a caressing touch. Very long finish!
Grilled duck foie gras with chanterelles, quail with figs, chateaubriand, lamb with prunes and almonds, venison with grand veneur sauce, wild boar chop, epoisses, chocolate macaroons.
Serving temperature: 16 - 18°C
The vineyard is located on the “Plateau de Mouton”. This terroir is made up of very deep gravel laid on a limestone subsoil. The undulations allow good flow of water towards the Gironde and thus promote natural drainage for the vineyard. This Premier Cru benefits from exceptional natural conditions both for the quality of its gravel soils and for its exposure and sunshine.
Manual harvest, vinification for 15 to 25 days in oak vats, aging for 19 to 22 months in new oak barrels.
