Château Mouton Rothschild 2006
Red wine | Premier Cru Classé, Pauillac AC
Often, the men and women who "make" Mouton succeed one another from generation to generation, passing on ancestral know-how which is enriched, over the years, with the addition of the most modern techniques. This is how it is, always different depending on the vintage, but always the same – witness its legendary blackcurrant flavor! – and always at the top, the Château well deserves its motto: “Mouton ne change”.

96 100Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateTasted at the Mouton-Rothschild vertical in London, the 2006 Mouton-Rothschild was really the wine that put winemaker Philippe Dhalluin on the map, in the sense that unlike the 2005 born in a great vintage, this 2006 had to transcend it. It remains one of the standouts of the growing season and actually replicates previous showings just the week earlier and in January. As expected, the nose has quite brilliant delineation with blackberry, graphite, here an almost cold slate-like scent. The palate is harmonious with the carefully judged acidity, fine-grain tannin and immense detail on the finish. Recent bottles suggest that it may close up for several years, in which case, either enjoy this in the next few months or cellar this for a few years and receive vinous dividends down the line. Tasted May 2016.

95 100Wine SpectatorThis is in an interesting spot right now, still sporting some youthful blackberry, cassis and plum fruit, with only secondary hints starting to emerge. Yet those secondary hints are very tantalizing, with well-worn cedar, tobacco and sanguine notes adding range and cut. There's a freshness throughout, yet also a supple edge, which allows the fruit to drape prettily on the finish.--Non-blind Mouton-Rothschild vertical (March 2017). Drink now through 2034.
Black color, with purple reflections.
Very nice freshness. Floral and fruity notes (blackcurrant and blackberry). Cedar tip.
Balanced and refined, with a caressing touch. Very long finish!
Grilled duck foie gras with chanterelles, quail with figs, chateaubriand, lamb with prunes and almonds, venison with grand veneur sauce, wild boar chop, epoisses, chocolate macaroons.
Serving temperature: 16 - 18°C
The vineyard is located on the “Plateau de Mouton”. This terroir is made up of very deep gravel laid on a limestone subsoil. The undulations allow good flow of water towards the Gironde and thus promote natural drainage for the vineyard. This Premier Cru benefits from exceptional natural conditions both for the quality of its gravel soils and for its exposure and sunshine.
Manual harvest, vinification for 15 to 25 days in oak vats, aging for 19 to 22 months in new oak barrels.
