100 100Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateFrom barrel, I wrote that 2022 Montrose was so compelling that assigning it a bracketed score seemed a mere formality, and so it has proven. Unwinding in the glass with a deep and brooding bouquet of cassis, wild blueberries, violets, pencil shavings and burning embers, it's full-bodied, deep and dense, somehow marrying all the tannic authority that has long been such a signature of Montrose with a suavity and purity that represents the quintessence of contemporary Bordeaux. The broad, palate-staining finish lasts for more than a minute. This is a profound young wine that readers aren't going to want to miss. Drinking window: 2032 - 2065. William Kelley. March 2025.

Assemblage : 66 % cabernet sauvignon, 25 % merlot, 8 % cabernet franc, 1 % petit verdot. Degré d'alcool : 14°5 - pH : 3,78. Rendement : 31 hl/ha. A déguster de préférence entre 2036 et 2066. Avril 2023.

99 100DecanterA deep heady nose filled with fragrant black fruit, liquorice, tobacco and violets. Sumptuous and seductive, this walks the fine line between presenting the vintage with a heady, charged palate full of sun-kissed fruit and lashings of liquorice spice with pristine cherries and blackcurrants and a vein of salty, crushed stone and iron minerality. Gorgeous acidity keeps the profile lifted and almost airy before the density of the aromatics and flavours comes into play. So well constructed, this has muscles and serious power but within a sleek frame and a delicate chalky touch on the finish. Drinking window: 2030 - 2050. Georgina Hindle. January 2025.

97 100Wine EnthusiastThis is a powerful wine with bold tannins and a rich structure. The wine's ripe blueberry aroma and dense texture go well with the concentrated black fruits and opulence. The wine will take its time: drink from 2029. Roger Voss. January 2025.

An intense dark purple.
Intense and complex, with subtle aromas of jasmine and morello cherries, followed by hints of mint and ointment, before revealing nuances of blond tobacco, spices and blackberries.
Crisp, fresh and invigorating, with a smooth, briny mid-palate. This wine possesses a powerful tannic structure, yet wrapped in a velvet glove. The finish is persistent and intense, playing a unique, balanced and precise partition.
Château Montrose is located in the heart of the commune of Saint-Estèphe. The vineyard, 95 ha in one piece, which is extremely rare in Médoc, was planted on a very well exposed gravelly ridge on the banks of the Gironde; it therefore overlooks its estuary. The soils are composed of gravelly black sand and the subsoils of marl-clay.
Vatting for 20 to 25 days in thermoregulated stainless steel vats, aging for approximately 22 months in oak barrels (60% new wood).
