98 100Yves BeckLots of finesse and expression in this bouquet. It is marked by freshness through notes of red berries, peppermint and spices. Allowed to breathe, it also displays notes of black berries and finally a touch of cedar. On the palate, the wine displays fullness and freshness from the attack. Its tannins are silky, with a fine grain and gain fullness along the palate. The foundations of Montrose are built slowly and do not seem obvious at first contact. It is by following the evolution of the tannins at the end of the palate that we realize that it has a targeted and relevant power which nevertheless blocks the way for other elements. The latter, respectively the aromatic expression, manage to reveal themselves upon aeration. This will take time. It is a great wine to keep. 2027-2060.

98 100DecanterA serious wall of blueberry and blackberry compote, and a tone of savory Cabernet sinew and freshness. This is a great Montrose, inky, broad-shouldered and structured. It needs time to aerate and open in the glass, then you see the precision, the heft, the chiselling of the fruits with a tone of graphite, cigar Wooden box and campfire smoke - huge persistence. This will need a long time and will reward patience. One of the few where a 1986, 2016 and 2010 comparison makes sense. A yield around 30hl/ha. 1% Petit Verdot, 3.86pH, IPT 80. 45% of the overall production. Drinking Window 2029 - 2050. Jane Anson.

97 100Jean-Marc QuarinDark, purple, intense and beautiful color. Large, complex nose of Cabernet Sauvignon, deep, fresh, ripe and subtle. Soft on the palate, with a meticulous touch, rich in the middle where the body melts, the wine gains flavor in the finish where it finishes long, powerful, noble, complex and very well constructed. Touch of positive austerity in persistence. It's very good. Blend: 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot. Yield: 29 hl/ha. Best drunk between 2032 and 2055.
Magnificent purple red with purplish reflections.
Intense aromas of morello cherry, blueberries, plum and coffee bean, followed by a touch of mint and mineral notes
Well-structured, powerful, tight grainy tannins, aromatic and persistent finish.
Château Montrose is located in the heart of the town of Saint-Estèphe. The vineyard, 95 ha in one piece, which is extremely rare in Médoc, was planted on a very well exposed gravelly ridge on the banks of the Gironde; it therefore overlooks the estuary. The soils are composed of gravel, black sand and the subsoils of marl-clay.
Vatting for 20 to 25 days in thermoregulated stainless steel vats, aging for approximately 22 months in oak barrels, 60% of which is new wood.
