Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion 2022
Red wine | Graves, Pessac-Léognan AC
Under the classic elegance of Pessac-Léognan, the great Carmes wine unfolds a unique score. Cabernet Franc, in unprecedented proportions, offers silky power, relayed by the intensity of Cabernet Sauvignon. On this structure, the Merlot develops a round and fine fruit: the balance is there and guarantees a style that is as complex as it is delicious.

100 100Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateThe 2022 Les Carmes Haut-Brion is the finest wine bottled to date at this estate under Patrice Pichet's ownership and Guillaume Pouthier's direction. Unfurling from the glass with aromas of violet, iris, dark wild berries, pencil lead and mulberries, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated with a deep core of fruit beautifully framed by velvety, precise tannins, segueing into a long, saline and perfumed finish. Suave and harmonious, it was crafted with 70% whole bunches and matured in 70% new oak. This unconventional blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon and 26% Merlot represents a turning point for the estate, cementing its rapid ascendancy in the Bordeaux firmament. Drinking window: 2032-2026. Yohan Castaing. March 2025.

100 100DecanterDeep and brooding, this wine is beautifully floral with violets, irises, and peonies alongside ripe black cherries, liquorice, and dark chocolate. Concentrated yet bursting with energy, it flows effortlessly across the palate. Vibrant red fruits - strawberry, cherry, raspberry - sit atop a mineral backbone of salty, wet stones. Crisp yet powdery tannins and bright acidity give incredible tension. Despite its depth, it feels almost weightless, so drinkable yet built to age. Pure, pristine, and vibrant, with no trace of heat - just balance and finesse. Juicy, lively, and utterly compelling. A true expression of place and a sure-fire hit. 70% whole bunch fermented. Two years ageing, 80% new oak, 10% big 20hl vats and 10% amphora. 3.55pH. 40% Cabernet Franc, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot. Drinking window: 2029 - 2050. Georgina Hindle. December 2024.

Assemblage : 40 % cabernet franc, 34 % cabernet sauvignon (moyenne ++), 26 % merlot. Degré d'alcool : 13°48 - pH : 3,61. Vinification avec 70 % de vendange entière (moyenne ++. C'était 58 % en 2016). IPT : 94. Rendement : 28 hl/ha. A consommer de préférence entre 2035 et 2060. Avril 2023.

A beautiful dark and intense purple red, with almost black highlights.
Beautiful aromatic complexity, with nuances of blackcurrant, black cherry, blackberry jelly, dark chocolate and licorice, followed by floral notes and a slight touch of salinity and graphite.
Fleshy entry in the mouth and meticulous in its texture, the wine shines with its touch and its flesh in the mid-palate, melting on the palate, juicy, nuanced, complex, deep and noble in a superb construction. A sophisticated, pure and deep vintage.
Charcuterie, meat and game terrine, stuffed turkey, oven roast, T-bone steak, café de Paris entrecôte, leg of lamb, royal couscous, saddle of venison, soft cheese, dark chocolate fondant.
Serving temperature: 16 - 18 ° C
The ten hectares of land are divided between gravel, clay and sand. It is the affinities of the land which guided the grape varieties. Cabernet Franc (39%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%), further on, Merlot (41%) is growing. A plant mosaic which establishes the atypical profile of the estate. Average age of vines: 44 years.
Hand-picked grapes, vatting for 35 days, aging in oak barrels (75% new wood, 15% tuns and 10% in terracotta jars) for 24 months.

Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion
Patrice Pichet acquired the Carmes estate at the end of 2010. The investment, of course, has a taste for challenge but also serves an authentic passion for wine, carrying the most beautiful ambitions. Inaugurated in 2016, the new winery designed by Philippe Starck and Luc Arsène-Henry marks a new era at the château. Between a work of art and a cutting-edge tool, it embodies a renewed ambition for excellence. Les Carmes Haut-Brion, pride of the estate, the great wine plays a successful art of synthesis, between strength and finesse, radiance and depth.
