Château Léoville Barton 2022
Red wine | 2nd Cru Classé, Saint-Julien AC
Château Léoville Barton takes its name from Hugh Barton, grandson of the founder of Barton & Guestier, who purchased part of Château Léoville in 1826. This new property became Château Léoville Barton. The vineyard still belongs to the same family. A Grand Cru Classé of the Saint-Julien appellation, the reputation of this château has continued to grow, vintage after vintage, thanks to the quality of its wines.

97 100Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateThe 2022 Léoville Barton is performing brilliantly in bottle, wafting from the glass with aromas of cassis, pencil shavings, pen ink, cigar box and spices. Medium to full-bodied, suave and velvety, it's dense and concentrated, with terrific energy and persistence. As readers will remember, it's the first vintage produced in the estate's new winery, which more than doubled the number of vats, permitting sub-plot by sub-plot harvesting and vinification, along with a number of other technical improvements that translate into enhanced purity and precision. Drinking window: 2027 - 2055. 97+/100. William Kelley. March 2025.

2028-2057. Décembre 2024.

97 100DecanterRichly concentrated on the nose with evocative aromas of blackcurrant, tobacco, vanilla, chocolate, clove and violets. Punchy and alive, this has both strength and elegance giving smooth, silky tannins with fleshy fruit and high acidity. It manages to marry quite a muscular frame with beautiful freshness and focus to give a round mouthfeel with plenty of flavour and kick. It's on the opulent side with concentrated blackcurrants and cherries but has a cooling, minty undercurrent too. I like this a lot. Not as openly friendly at this point as some but it's extremely well executed and has great ageing potential. Drinking window: 2030 - 2050. Georgina Hindle. January 2025.

97 100Wine EnthusiastThis is a beautifully textured wine, with its fruit and tannins in harmony. Its intensity is matched by its balance, giving a ripe, layered and elegant wine with a fine future. Roger Voss. February 2023.

Deep garnet red.
Discreet roasted bouquet with aromas of black fruits and cloves.
Fresh on the palate, with notes of eucalyptus. The wine is firm, dense and concentrated, full of vibrancy and with a structure capable of defying the passing years. A wine with great ageing potential.
Full-bodied red meats, venison stew, chocolate and sour cherry desserts such as Black Forest gateau.
Serving temperature: 16 - 18 ° C
The Château Léoville Barton vineyard is located in the heart of the Saint-Julien terroir, on one of the most beautiful gravelly hilltops in the Garonne region. The clayey gravelly subsoil helps to regulate the climatic vagaries of the year. The vines are cultivated traditionally, without weeding or the use of herbicides.
Hand-picked. In the cellar, the grapes are destemmed, followed by careful sorting and crushing, then vinified separately in temperature-controlled wooden vats, with alcoholic fermentation lasting 7 to 10 days. Maceration lasts around three weeks. Aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new.
