Château Léoville Barton 2021
Red wine | 2nd Cru Classé, Saint-Julien AC
Château Léoville Barton takes its name from Hugh Barton, grandson of the founder of Barton & Guestier, who purchased part of Château Léoville in 1826. This new property became Château Léoville Barton. The vineyard still belongs to the same family. A Grand Cru Classé of the Saint-Julien appellation, the reputation of this château has continued to grow, vintage after vintage, thanks to the quality of its wines.

97 100Wine EnthusiastThe sandalwood and grey-pepper aromas lead to a powerful wine with elegance and refinement. It has weight and beautiful concentration. It is impressive and sure to age well. Drink from 2028. Roger Voss. January 2024.

Assemblage : 84 % cabernet sauvignon, 11 % merlot, 3 % cabernet franc. Degré d'alcool : 13°12. Rendement : 39 hl/ha. A consommer de préférence entre 2028 et 2045. Avril 2022.

94 100DecanterThe 2021 Léoville Barton has turned out beautifully in bottle, wafting from the glass with notes of cassis and plums mingled with subtle hints of pencil shavings, menthol and spices. Medium to full-bodied, deep and impressively concentrated, it's layered and refined, built around lively acids and a chassis of sweet, powdery tannin that will reward some bottle age with greater plenitude. It's a real success. Drinking window: 2027 - 2045. 94+/100. William Kelley. February 2024.

94 100DecanterHeady on the nose, perfumed and scented. The palate is alive and playful, delivering high acidity but also focused fruit so it's both lightly framed and fun, but also savoury and serious. Smooth and silky tannins give the gentle frame, letting the strawberry, creamy raspberry and red cherry fruit do the talking. It's unfussy, all the elements to the fore but all well balanced with a charming texture overall and persistence of high-toned red berry fruits with saline sides. Hints of green pepper, black pepper, slate and pencil lead on the finish. I like this a lot! Drinking window: 2026 - 2048. Georgina Hindle. April 2022.

Intense dark red with purple highlights.
A complex bouquet with aromas of black fruits, blackcurrant and cherry, enveloped in subtle notes of cedar and leather.
Juicy and structured, full-bodied with beautiful density, this wine offers a silky explosion of flavours. The enveloping structure carries the wine towards a beautiful length.
Full-bodied red meats, venison stew, chocolate and sour cherry desserts such as Black Forest gateau.
Serving temperature: 16 - 18 ° C
The Château Léoville Barton vineyard is located in the heart of the Saint-Julien terroir, on one of the most beautiful gravelly hilltops in the Garonne region. The clayey gravelly subsoil helps to regulate the climatic vagaries of the year. The vines are cultivated traditionally, without weeding or the use of herbicides.
Hand-picked. In the cellar, the grapes are destemmed, followed by careful sorting and crushing, then vinified separately in temperature-controlled wooden vats, with alcoholic fermentation lasting 7 to 10 days. Maceration lasts around three weeks. Aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new.
