Beautiful deep garnet red.

Nose

Complex and charming, roasted and toasted notes combined with black fruit aromas and a hint of vanilla.

Palate

A smooth, dense attack, powerful and harmonious, with a long finish and remarkably mellow tannins. A great wine for ageing!

Wine-growing terroir

The vineyard now covers 75 ha. It is planted on gravelly soils with a sandy or clayey matrix, dissected into remarkably exposed and perfectly drained hilltops. The average age of the vines is 30 years.

Winemaking

Hand-picked in small crates, sorted on a table before destemming, optical sorting, plot by plot vinification in small thermo-regulated concrete vats, destemming without crushing, punching down, long maceration (28-35 days), ageing for 14 to 18 months in oak barrels (1/3 new, 2/3 2nd and 3rd use).

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Larrivet Haut-Brion leaps with kirsch, warm blueberries and black plums plus wafts of earth, herbs and cedar and a touch of tar. Jean-Marc Quarin Beau rouge sombre. Nez intense, pur, fruité et fin. Bouche toute en délicatesse de toucher avec de la sève, du goût et une belle présence entre le milieu et la finale. Persistance complexe et savoureuse. Vin très original que le gel a contraint à un assemblage très cabernet sauvignon. (60 %). A consommer de préférence entre 2024 et 2040. Février 2020.

Decanter Full of rich and fresh power, with the grippy tannins of an en primeur wine. Very young; this has an attractive aromatic power and is full of potential. The blend is atypical because of the effects of the frost in this vintage – as is the quantity, with 60,000 bottles released compared to 150,000 in 2016, with 60% grand vin and no second wine produced. The result is juicy, extremely intense dark fruits and smoky barbecue flavours, with some hints of reduction on the first nose. Drinking window: 2024 - 2038. Jane Anson. July 2018.

Yves Beck Pourpre violacé. Bouquet fruité avec des notes de myrtilles et de groseilles. Touche de zeste d’orange. Attaque friande. En bouche, le vin est doté de tannins qui développent leur puissance lentement. Ils gagnent en ampleur et sont en accord avec la structure acide. Pour l’instant, l’aromatique se révèle timidement en bouche, mais la matière nécessaire pour l’épanouissement et l’expression du vin est présente. Je suis curieux de suivre l’évolution de ce vin. 2022-2034 88-90/100. Mars 2018.
