Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2009
Red wine | Cru Classé de Graves Pessac-Léognan AC
The Mission takes its name from the “priests of the Mission” who cultivated the Château’s vines at the time. According to Robert Parker, "The Mission has long been one of the best wines and one of the most consistent qualitatively speaking." Certainly the most mysterious wine of the Haut-Brion lineage!

100 100Robert Parker's Wine AdvocatePerhaps a once-in-a-lifetime La Mission-Haut-Brion, the 2009 will take its place alongside the many great wines made here since the early 1920s. (Robert Parker)

96 100Wine SpectatorThis is forcefully rendered, with dark tar, espresso and chocolate up front, backed by dense layers of fig sauce, currant reduction and smoldering black tea leaves. There's dense flesh and great drive on the finish, which has serious grip. Best from 2016 through 2035.
Intense purple red, with violet reflections.
Intense aromas of red and black fruits, such as raspberry and blackberry, followed by scents of Havana, roasting culminating in a very pretty woodiness.
The mouth begins with a great sensation of sweetness, then the wine broadens and invades us. From that moment on, the very mature tannins take over, giving the full measure of the great concentration of this wine.
Château La Mission Haut-Brion is located just opposite Château Haut-Brion, in the town of Talence, in an urbanized area in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The soils of this vineyard are sandy and gravelly and the subsoil clayey-sandy.
