Château Gruaud Larose 2021
Red wine | 2nd Cru Classé, Saint-Julien AC
Gruaud Larose has always sought to emphasise the importance of people in the creation of its wine, both in terms of their actions and the connection they establish with their vineyards. The vines and grapes are nothing without people, without the winemakers, from the most modest to the most powerful.

2027-2051. Novembre 2023.

95 100DecanterSubtle, inviting bouquet. Notes of blueberries, blackberries followed by spicy nuances and a little graphite. On the palate the wine has density while boasting a slender side. Its tannins are elegant and slowly reveal themselves to finally display their power at the end of the palate. The acid structure perfectly ensures the aftertaste and gives temperament while being matched by the fullness of the tannins. Fruity and refreshing finish. 2027-2050 94-96/100

94 100Jean-Marc QuarinIntense, purple and beautiful color. Very aromatic, fine, fruity, pure and complex nose. Delicate on the palate, meticulous in its texture, refined to the touch, accompanied by bright fruitiness, the wine grows on the finish, long, sappy and noble.

95 100DecanterElegant yet driven with gentle power, nothing going overboard or trying too hard. This takes a beat, then it comes strongly - obvious spice and flesh, full of raspberry, blueberry, blackcurrant pastille, fennel, hawthorn and liquorice. The tannins build up through the palate and press in the final moments. Virginie Salette winemaker since 2017. A yield of 32hl/ha. Vinify at around 22-23°C, so an extremely low and slow extraction. Harvest was from September 14 to 29. A big shouldered St-Julien but with a wide nuance of flavors. Drinking Window 2028 - 2042. - Jane Anson.

The soils of the Saint-Julien appellation belong to the gravel and colluvial deposits formed during the two Mindel episodes. They are characterised by terraces at medium altitude and a relative balance between the two types of gravel. It is often said that Saint-Julien wine strikes a happy medium between the power of Pauillac and the finesse of Margaux.
Maceration for 20 to 30 days at suitable temperature, malolactic fermentation in marc, aging for 18 months in French oak barrels (80% new wood).
