Château Gruaud Larose 2017
Red wine | 2nd Cru Classé, Saint-Julien AC
Gruaud Larose has always sought to promote the place of man in the design of his wine. Both in action and in the link he establishes with his vineyard. The vine, the grapes are nothing without man, without the makers of the wines, from the most modest to the most powerful.

94 100Jean-Marc QuarinDark, intense and beautiful color. Fine, fruity, pure and subtle nose. Caressing attack, suave development, very fruity and tasty. The wine slides towards a finish with a taste of black fruits and fine tannins. Very well constructed, it ends at a good length.

94 100Yves BeckBright garnet red with purple reflections. Elegant, fine, complex bouquet with scents of raspberries and strawberries. Touch of black pepper and cinnamon. Allowed to breathe, I also notice pleasant notes of blackberries. Lots of elegance in attack with a delicious touch and freshness. The structure is distinguished and in harmony with powerful tannins which reveal themselves in a crescendo and gaining breadth along the palate. A wine of character, which will have to be approached slowly. This is not really new in Gruaud-Larose. Lingering finish. To be followed carefully. 2024–2042

92 100James SucklingA firm and silky young red with an attractive center palate of fruit and hints of cedar. Fresh, tight and compacted.

91 100DecanterThis is a firm, well-placed cassis and redcurrant expression, ripe enough to highlight some of the best qualities of a classic St-Julien vintage, but not quite hitting its stride. Still, it has a lovely floral character and a fine tannic structure. An attractive, carefully expressed Gruaud Larose with lots to enjoy. Drinking Window 2025 - 2038

The soils of the Saint-Julien appellation belong to the massifs of gravel and collusions put in place during the two Mindel episodes. They are differentiated by mid-altitude terraces and by the relative balance between the two types of gravel. It is often said that Saint-Julien wine is a happy medium between the strength of Pauillac and the finesse of Margaux.
Maceration for 20 to 30 days at suitable temperature, malolactic fermentation in marc, aging for 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels (30% new wood).
