Feminine, charming, due to the dominance of Merlot, the wines of Château Gazin are pleasant to taste after a few years of aging, but they are most often worth waiting fifteen, twenty years or more. Their sumptuous generosity offers a wide aromatic palette. The 2018 vintage is the 100th vintage produced by the Bailliencourt family on this land of Pomerol.

Superb bouquet perfectly combining the freshness of red berries and the charm of 2018. Notes of cherries, blackberries and cocoa beans but also a chalky touch. Fresh and keen character in attack. The wine has precise, compact tannins and good tension. Freshness is therefore essential and welcome in the rather charming style of the vintage. Fruity and persistent finish. A great success. 2025-2044.

Rich aromas of blueberries, ripe black cherries, chocolate and sandalwood. It's full-bodied with firm, well integrated and rounded tannins. Solid depth of fruit here. Creamy and polished. Better after 2024.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Gazin (a blend of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc) leaps from the glass with vibrant notes of warm plums, black raspberries and kirsch, plus suggestions of wild mushrooms, fragrant earth, Sichuan pepper and tree bark. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers impressive energy with approachable, rounded tannins and a lively backbone framing the crunchy red and black fruits, finishing long and earthy. Magnificent palette of aromas of morello cherries, blackcurrants and blueberries, enveloped in smoky and undergrowth notes.

Palate

Beautiful robust structure, elegant tannins, slight touch of acidity present, beautiful long and balanced finish.

Wine-growing terroir

The Château Gazin vineyard covers an area of 26 hectares in one piece, located on the high terrace of the famous Pomerol plateau, next to Pétrus and not far from Château L'Église. The terroir is made up of gravel on the surface and includes, underground, blue and green clays, allowing a regular and moderate supply of water to the vines.

Winemaking

Fermentation for 2 to 3 weeks in small concrete vats, malolactic fermentation in barrels or vats, grape variety by grape variety, aging for 18 months in oak barrels, 50% of which is new wood.

This is the first time that Château Gazin has included so much Cabernet Sauvignon in its blend, which gives good structure and reinforces the complexity of the wine.
