Château Ferrière 2022
Vin rouge | 3rd Cru Classé, Margaux AC
With its 20 hectares of vines, Château Ferrière had one of the smallest Crus Classés vineyards in 1855. Today, Claire Villars-Lurton is the architect of this revival. She works with the greatest finesse to reveal in her wine the exceptional terroir that constitutes the Château Ferrière vineyard. The wine is certified in organic agriculture and biodynamics (Demeter and Biodyvin).

95 100Jean-Marc QuarinCouleur noire. Avril 2023.

95 100DecanterGorgeous fragrance of roses and milk chocolate, expressive, alive and inviting. Round and supple, generous flavours of blackcurrant, black cherry and strawberry. Compete and well textured, tannins are super fine and so well integrated, just giving a touch of grip and support to the fruit and high acidity. Well controlled, gentle, confident but not showy at all with a lovely energy and push from start to finish. Lovely texture and juiciness, pretty and so still with structure. Doesn’t have so much concentration and overt power but really delivers a gorgeous, sculpted, precise, refined glass of wine with so much energy and dynamism. Excellent, stony mineral finish too and such a long length. You could drink this today. 1% Cabernet Franc completes the blend. 75-80% grand vin production. 3.64pH. A yield of 24hl/ha. Ageing: 18 months, 35% in new oak barrels, 35% in barrels of one wine. Drinking window: 2028 - 2049. Georgina Hindle. April 2023.

2027-2038. Décembre 2024.

94 100Wine EnthusiastA fine wine that shows great pedigree and density. The wine's dominance of Cabernet Sauvignon, with black currant aroma and black plum flavors, shows great potential. Drink from 2028. Organic and biodynamic. Roger Voss. January 2025.

94 100James SucklingDusty spices with a lactic touch to the deep black fruit. Full-bodied and rich, this shows plenty of blackberries and dark chocolate lingering in a structured yet lengthy finish. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink from 2027. Zekun Shuai. February 2025.

94 100Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateA blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2022 Ferrière offers up aromas of dark berries, plums and sweet soil tones, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich and layered palate that's suave, elegantly muscular and lively. From biodynamically farmed clay-rich gravels, this 18-hectare estate (formerly leased to Château Lascombes) possesses an unusually high proportion of old vines, with fully one-third of their vineyards over 70 years of age. 92-94/100. William Kelley. April 2023.

Serving temperature: 16 - 18 °C
A large part of the Château Ferrière vines grow in the heart of the appellation on a plateau of deep white gravel. This soil, which is not very rich and draining, favors the deep rooting of the vines and thus the concentration of the grapes. In 2015, Château Ferrière obtained its certification for organic agriculture. Since 2018, the property has been certified for its biodynamic approach (Demeter and Biodyvin).
The winemaking cellar was renovated in 2013 by the famous Bordeaux architect Fabien Pédelaborde. Château Ferrière is vinified in concrete vats, using traditional methods. It vats for 18-22 days, before resting for 18 months in French oak barrels (40% new wood, 40% oak barrels of 2nd passage and 20% in ovoid vats).
