Château Duhart-Milon 2012

This marks an impressive step forward for this wine that's so often been in the shadows of other wines in the Lafite-Rothschild stable. It's dense and structured as well as deliciously fruity. The wine is straight down the line, starting with perfumed acidity and finishing with blackberry fruit. Intense and tannic, it's likely to age. Drink from 2020. Roger Voss. January 2015.

Lots of currants, dried strawberries, sweet tobacco and cedar on the nose. Full to medium body and a solid structure. Reminds me of some outstanding Lafites of the 1980s such as 1985. A little tight and closed. Try in 2020. February 2015.

62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot Pourpre grenat légèrement violacé. Nez réservé, qui révèle néanmoins bien le Cabernet Sauvignon. Touche florale, menthe et d’élevage (cacao et réglisse). Attaque discrète, suave et crémeuse. Le vin est élégant, souple, doté d’une belle trame tannique qui rivalise bien avec la structure. Texture granuleuse. Un vin qui demande à s’épanouir et à se révéler. Belle réussite. 2017-2032. Décembre 2014.

Tasted en primeur at the chateau. The Duhart Milon-Rothschild is a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot cropped between 27th September and 17th October. It has a tightly wound bouquet that demands coaxing (perhaps because of the low pressure that day.) There are broody black fruit, sous-bois and graphite, but missing a little vigour. The palate is medium-bodied with a saline note on the entry. The tannins are quite fine, though it is missing a little weight in the mid-palate and on the finish. It is an understated Duhart, one that will be more approachable that other recent vintages. 88-90/100. Neal Martin. Tasted April 2013.

Couleur sombre d’intensité normale et vive. Nez fruité, discret et vanillé. Bouche soyeuse dès le départ se développant parfumée sur une corpulence normale et des tanins enveloppés. Longueur normale. Avril 2013.
