Colour

Light straw yellow with lime green highlights.

Nose

With delicate notes of apple pie, dried mango, fresh straw, lemongrass, ginger and caramel cream.

Palate

Rich, concentrated and smooth, enhanced by surprising freshness with an epic, long and complex finish, with enticing nutty notes.

Wine-growing terroir

The terroir of Barsac, particularly at Château Coutet, is clayey-limestone, hence water retention. Cold soils slow down the ripening of grapes.

Winemaking

Manual harvest between September and November, picking only botrytized grapes, slow pressing of the grapes, alcoholic fermentation in batches in barrels, aging for 18 months before final blending of the vintage.

James Suckling A triumph for the vintage with spices, dried mushroom, dried pineapple, peaches, and honey. Full and sweet with bright acidity and a long, intense finish. Powerful wine. This could be the best Coutet ever. Better in 2015. May 2013.

Jean-Marc Quarin La première bouteille n’avait pas le côté envoutant attendu. Notée 17,25. La seconde était bien supérieure. Couleur jaune vert. Nez fruité, sentant bon le citron vert et des notes de mousse de chêne. Bouche très fondante, très aérienne, noble, puissante, juteuse. Grande finale savoureuse et parfumée. Remarquable. pH : 3,7, sucre résiduel : 145 gr/l. Juin 2014.

Decanter On clay over limestone soils, relatively cool compared to Sauternes, this has a purity and freshness that is striking and moreish. Full of the quince, candied orange, truffle, apricot and lemon curd that you hope for in a quality sweet Bordeaux, coupled with lime blossom, ginger and citrus zest adding poise and character. Château Coutet

Château Coutet was recognized as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1855. On the lands of Barsac, which are the coldest in the appellation, the vines had already been planted centuries before. The great history of Sauternes and Barsac has been perpetuated since 1977 with the Baly family, which produces a rich, lively wine, with aromas of white flowers, citrus fruits, honey and vanilla from the very beginning of its evolution.
