Château Climens Premier Cru Classé 2011
Sweet wine | Barsac, Sauternes AC
Smooth and airy sweet white, Château Climens is a subtle wine that is unlike any other. If it expresses all the quintessence of the Barsac appellation through its balance and freshness, it also has the power and sumptuousness of the greatest Sauternes. Climens is perhaps defined above all by a brilliance, a depth, conferred by its unique terroir.

Superbe ! 06/09/2021.

97 100Jeb DunnuckMoving to the Grand Vin, the 2011 Château Climens reveals a still youthful gold color to go with impressive marzipan, brioche, honeycomb, and sauteed peach and apricot-like fruits. With beautiful balance on the palate, it's fullbodied and has a vibrant spine of acidity followed by a clean, lengthy finish. This beautiful, complex Sauternes is going to evolve for 20-30 years or more in cold cellars. 21/12/2020.

96 100The Wine DoctorFrom a half bottle. From Bérénice Lurton we have a wine of a polished straw-gold hue, with a light burnish. It has a simply beautiful nose, citric with notes of bright orange and lemon balm, complicated by crushed flint and grey smoke, with little seams of richness, calling to mind pastry, crème patisserie and custard apple. There follows a palate of simply divine tension and poise, carrying forward all the sweet intensity seen on the nose, but it frames it with tension and rather taut, savoury, acid and mineral-driven style. Poised and balanced, taut and driven, with exceptional persistence, a delicious drive, and depth, grain, substance and energy all combined. This is stunning, and a class apart within the appellation. Chris Kissack. 01/07/2022.

95 100Yves BeckRobe jaune dore.

94 100VinousThe 2011 Climens has a fresh, lifted, mineraldriven bouquet which has closed down a little. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh. A lively, tensile finish, with hints of stem ginger that linger on the aftertaste. This is drinking beautifully. Neal Martin. 18/08/2022.

Beautiful golden yellow.
Beautiful aromatic complexity thanks to aromas of quince, spices and pear, intertwined with floral notes.
Powerful, dense, deep and rich on the palate, without excess, with that vitality that is the hallmark of Climens. An elegant finish, full of freshness and lightness. A great vintage!
Pan-fried foie gras with apples, veal escalopes with Roquefort, filet mignon with Roquefort, blue cheese, pineapple carpaccio, caramelized pineapple, lost brioche.
The name Climens means “ungrateful land” in Frankish language! This was without counting on the vine, this prodigious plant capable of transforming despised soils into terroirs blessed by the gods. The 31 ha of vines are planted with 100% Sémillon, with an average age of 38 years. Strewn with pebbles, the red earth is made up of a thin layer of clayey sand, rich in iron, resting on a cracked limestone base which, combined with the steep exposure, promotes excellent natural drainage.
Manual harvest, carried out by experienced pickers, trained and supervised by Bérénice Lurton and her team. Fermentation with natural yeasts in small batches in French oak barrels (30 to 40% renewed each year). Aging for 20 to 22 months in barrels on fine lees (one third new wood).
