Château Climens Premier Cru Classé 2009
Sweet wine | Barsac, Sauternes AC
Smooth and airy sweet white, Château Climens is a subtle wine that is unlike any other. If it expresses all the quintessence of the Barsac appellation through its balance and freshness, it also has the power and sumptuousness of the greatest Sauternes. Climens is perhaps defined above all by a brilliance, a depth, conferred by its unique terroir.

Persistance remarquable, beaucoup d’unité, grande finesse. Grand vin.

97 100Robert Parker's Wine AdvocatePale gold, the 2009 Climens offers up a fabulously fragrant nose of green tea, chamomile, powdered ginger, lemon marmalade and fallen leaves with suggestions of spice cake and preserved mandarin peel. The palate is super intense with vibrant, energetic fruit and layer upon layer of perfume and spice nuances, finishing very long and incredibly youthful. Lisa Perrotti-Brown. 14/04/2019.

97 100DecanterRich and opulent, but the Barsac terroir keeps it reined in. Exotic fruit notes, baked apple and confit fruit. Pure, velvety and unctuous but with a bite of citrus zest freshness coming in behind. James Lawther.

96 100VinousThe 2009 Climens is much more vibrant on the nose than the 2010 with lovely dried honey, quince, saffron and light chamomile aromas. It blossoms in the glass and gains intensity with each swirl. The palate is very well balanced with a touch of marmalade on the entry, quite tensile from start to finish with a rather long, viscous finish. This is just beginning to motor. Neal Martin. Avril 2022.

Beautiful pale gold.
With aromas of green tea, chamomile, powdered ginger, lemon marmalade and fallen leaves, enveloped in notes of spice cake and candied mandarin peel.
A very intense vintage, with vibrant, energetic fruity notes and spicy nuances. Very long finish and incredibly youthful.
Pan-fried foie gras with apples, veal escalopes with Roquefort, filet mignon with Roquefort, blue cheese, pineapple carpaccio, caramelized pineapple, lost brioche.
The name Climens means “ungrateful land” in Frankish language! This was without counting on the vine, this prodigious plant capable of transforming despised soils into terroirs blessed by the gods. The 31 ha of vines are planted with 100% Sémillon, with an average age of 38 years. Strewn with pebbles, the red earth is made up of a thin layer of clayey sand, rich in iron, resting on a cracked limestone base which, combined with the steep exposure, promotes excellent natural drainage.
Manual harvest, carried out by experienced pickers, trained and supervised by Bérénice Lurton and her team. Fermentation with natural yeasts in small batches in French oak barrels (30 to 40% renewed each year). Aging for 20 to 22 months in barrels on fine lees (one third new wood).
