Château Chasse-Spleen is ideally located on a hill between Margaux and Saint-Julien. It produces an impeccable red wine, a sure value of Bordeaux, even if it is unclassified, because it was born after the official classification of 1855. It is fruity and spicy, silky, with flavors of wild berries and a slender finish. . Dark thoughts should be careful!

Wine-growing region

To the south-east of the gravelly ridge of Grand Poujeaux, this terroir benefits from a remarkably drained subsoil and superb exposure to the warm rays of the summer sun. The soil is composed of 80% Garonne gravel and 20% limestone clay.

Winemaking

In thermoregulated stainless steel vats and epoxy-coated cement, maceration for approximately one month, aging for 12 to 14 months in oak barrels, 40% of which is new wood.

On the palate the wine is balanced and has a structure that holds the fruit and provides freshness. The wine is balanced, juicy and will already be appreciable in its youth. Decanter Clear cinnamon notes – the oak is certainly highly toasted, giving a swirl of glamor to the rich black cherry notes. There is ambition and delivery here, without too much extraction, but fruit is clearly not overly generous. Aged in 40% new oak. Drinking Window 2022 - 2034

Château Chasse-Spleen

In the 19th century, the property under the name of Grand Poujeaux was divided and Madame Castaing became the owner. She renamed the area “Chasse-Spleen” in reference to the collection “Les Fleurs du Mal”. In 1976, the Château and its 103 ha wine estate were bought by the Merlaut family.
