Colour

Dark purple, almost black, with purplish hues.

Nose

Intense and fresh aromas of red berries, nuances of peppermint and licorice, followed by a mineral touch.

Palate

Elegant and juicy, with silky, well-controlled and precise tannins which bode well for a bright future. Delicious finish, on the fruit, with a nice persistence.

Wine-growing terroir

The Branaire-Ducru vineyard consists of 15 micro-terroirs which extend over 60 ha to the south of the appellation. The vines, aged 35 years on average, are planted on Quaternary gravel-siliceous alluvium soils. Merlot flourishes on clay soils.

Winemaking

Manual harvest, sorting of the grapes as soon as they arrive at the cellar, vinification separated by plot and grape variety in temperature-regulated stainless steel vats, slow maceration for 21 days. Aging for 18 months in oak barrels (60% new barrels).

James Suckling Plenty of blackberry, blueberry, lead pencil and violet aromas here that follow through to a full body, with ultra-fine tannins that run the length of the wine. So integrated and polished.Changes a lot in the glass. Thoughtful young red. Try after 2027.

Yves Beck Purplish crimson. Superb fruity intensity marked by freshness and aromas of red berries. Undertones of peppermint and licorice wood followed by a touch of graphite. Slightly creamy, elegant and juicy attack. The tannins reveal themselves slowly and display a channeled, precise power at the end of the palate. With a fine grain, they ensure a bright future for Branaire, commonly with an acidic structure. Delicious finish with palatability and fruit and persistence. 2026-2045 95-96/100.

Decanter An intensely perfumed nose with soft cocoa powder aromas. The texture is alluring, juicy and ripe but lifted, quite dense but also linear, a push-pull of direct fruit and chalky, plump tannins. Rich but not as supple as 2018, a bit more angular. Black cherries, plums and currants on the palate with both a nice sweetness and salinity. Not so easy to taste and understand today, it's thought provoking with lots going on. Great potential for a long life and one to watch!! Bottled at the beginning of July 2022.

Jean-Marc Quarin Dark, intense, purple and beautiful color. Very aromatic, fine, fruity, pure, subtle and floral nose. Soft on the palate, very fragrant in the middle, juicy and even complex in its unfolding, with presence, the wine melts, stretches, sappy, long and very tasty. Outfit and fun. Blend: 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc. Alcohol content: 13°5. Yield: 40 hl/ha.
