Colour

Dark, almost black crimson with purplish hues.

Nose

Intense and fresh aromas of red berries, nuances of peppermint and licorice, followed by a mineral touch.

Palate

Tightly woven tannins of great finesse. The freshness is omnipresent, thanks to moderate alcohol and good acidity. Astonishingly long finish.

Wine-growing terroir

The Branaire-Ducru vineyard consists of 15 micro-terroirs which extend over 60 ha to the south of the appellation. The vines, aged 35 years on average, are planted on Quaternary gravel-siliceous alluvium soils. Merlot flourishes on clay soils.

Winemaking

Manual harvest, sorting of the grapes as soon as they arrive at the cellar, vinification separated by plot and grape variety in temperature-regulated stainless steel vats, slow maceration for 21 days. Aging for 18 months in oak barrels (60% new barrels).

Jean-Marc Quarin Couleur sombre, intense et vive. Nez très aromatique, au fruité mûr et surtout très suave. Raffiné à l’attaque, suave au développement, très fruité et savoureux, le vin glisse en bouche, parfumé et délicieux. Il vient s’achever long, délicat et subtil. C’est très bon ! Assemblage 65 % cabernet sauvignon, 24 % merlot, 4,5 % cabernet franc, 6,5 % petit verdot. Degré d’alcool 13°2. pH 3.65. Rendement 39,6 hl/ha.

Decanter Liquorice, cola, caramel, tobacco and black fruits, - some blue fruit hints too. Smooth and round, this has a lovely weight on the palate, supple and juicy. One of the Branaire vintages where you feel the weight on the palate, some you don't! The tension has dropped and this is starting to widen. It's delicate still, the St Julien elegance on show with an easy fruit-forwardness and super appealing sweetness. Joyful and lifted with hints of strawberry and red cherry and stone and graphite pulling you back to the terroir just at the end. No need to wait to long to start enjoying this as it's offering excellent drinkability right now. 2023 - 2030. Georgina Hindle.
