This pure Tempranillo is made from hand-picked grapes grown in the vineyards of Haro, the heart of Spain's most famous region. The nose is complex, with flowers and fruit, aromas of coffee and chocolate, spices and smoke from barrel ageing. Both structured and creamy, this red wine has a fresh, fruity finish. Dark garnet-red colour.

Nose

Complex and attractive aromatic intensity, with hints of floral, berry and licorice and softened by coffee, chocolate and spice aromas.

Palate

On the palate, the entry is smooth and marked by pleasant tannin. It's a structured and supple wine, with a fresh finish that gives it a long, fruity taste.

Wine-growing terroir

The grapes come exclusively from Haro, the capital of Rioja Alta, with a vineyard with limestone and clay soils, rich in iron.

Winemaking

Manual harvesting and alcoholic fermentation take place in small stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures. Fermentation and hot maceration follow for a period of 18 days. Malolactic fermentation is then completed in concrete vats, then in oak barrels for 15 months.

Asúa is a tribute to the brothers Raimundo and Eusebio Real de Asúa, founders of the C.V.N.E., the Compagnie Vinicole du Nord de l'Espagne. This major winery, a pioneer in many respects, was founded in 1879 in Haro, the cradle of modern Rioja. It is still run by the same family, who, with the Asúa project, are returning to their historic roots and terroir.
