Alter Ego, Château Palmer 2019
Red wine | Margaux AC
The Château Palmer wines: based on the same philosophy, so many expressions of a terroir. Over time, these homages to the surrounding nature and the heritage of Château Palmer resonate. Not forcefully; but all in finesse, in elegance.

94 100Jean-Marc QuarinMy best rating given to this en primeur vintage. Dark, intense and beautiful color. Very aromatic and subtle nose, with nuances of black fruits. Tactile detail on the palate, with a very tasty background. The wine becomes denser in the last third of the mouth and finishes very long and very good. Blend: 51% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot. Alcohol content: 13°8 – pH: 3.63 – IPT: 66. 2026 – 2042.

94 100DecanterCinnamon spice on the nose, with a patisserie edge to the fruits that gives a rich, creamy impression. As ever with the Palmer stable of wines, you can pick out the individual flavors clearly, with careful and precise delineation of cassis, bilberry, slate and tobacco notes, but overall this is an outstanding Alter Ego that puts the emphasis on pleasure. Tannins are extremely precise but feathery and pliable. An extremely low 37ppm of SO2 at this stage, in keeping with biodynamic principles and a desire to let the fruit speak. 3.62ph. 45hl/h yield, 45% of overall production in Alter Ego. 92 100Yves BeckPurpurviolett. Dichte and elegance. Ein ladender, fruchtiger und lebhafter Wein mit gelassenen und gut eingebundenen Tanninen. Fruitful and tender Finale. 2023-2034
Purple red with purplish reflections.
Silky but intense aromas of ripe black fruits.
Soft and velvety entry in the mouth, medium structure with well-integrated tannins, well balanced, long and aromatic finish.
Game terrine, duck foie gras, red meats, vegetable gratin, soft cheeses.
Serving temperature: 16 - 18°C
The Château Palmer vineyard covers 55 hectares spread over the sheep hills of the commune of Cantenac. Most of the plots are concentrated on a plateau of lean gravel from the Güntz era, located at the top of the ridges of the Margaux appellation.
The grapes having arrived at the cellar at temperatures a little higher than normal, it was necessary to cool the harvest. These efforts were rewarded since the tastings revealed batches of very high quality distinguished by their freshness, density and finesse.
