Wine trip to Swiss lands: Domaine du Mont d'Or

Voyage viticole en terres helvétiques : Domaine du Mont d'Or

Mont d'Or is the oldest wine estate in Valais. It is also known for having introduced Sylvaner to Switzerland, renamed Johannisberg and becoming its preferred grape variety. The terraced vines, certified organic, are located south of the Montorge nature reserve, at the gates of Sion. Since the middle of the 19th century, the estate's wines have often been praised by critics!

The history of Rosé Pigalle

Did you know?

The Parisian madness began in 1878, when the Johannisberg Mont d'Or won a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in the French capital. A century later, the new director of the Domaine du Mont d'Or and his head of culture set off on a trip to Paris.

After a night of drinking, they discovered an official “Place Pigalle” plaque in their suitcase. It is said that Paris gave it to them as a souvenir... A few months later, the Rosé “Pigalle” was born. And the street sign is hung on one of the Domaine’s yellow booths. You can now taste Place Pigalle at Mont d'Or!

Some ideas for food and wine pairings

  • The Perle Noire blend is ideal with a Valaisan plate, a Bacchus or Burgundy fondue.

  • The Syrah Madame De or the Cornalin Vieux Cachet will enhance all the flavors of game dishes.

  • Rosé Pigalle brings a touch of freshness to summer dishes such as a tomato/mozzarella salad.
