Château Margaux 2019

Is the 2019 Château Margaux the wine of the vintage? A strong case in its favor could certainly be made. Soaring from the glass with aromas of blackberries, raspberries, rose petals, violets, pencil shavings and vine smoke, it's full-bodied, layered and sensual, with a strikingly vibrant core of fruit that's framed by ripe, powdery tannins and bright acids, concluding with a penetrating, mouthwateringly saline finish of almost interminable duration. Complex, elegant and utterly compelling, this is a brilliant Bordeaux that anyone with the requisite disposable income is going to want to own. - William Kelley.

Amazing aromas of crushed stones and wet soil with fresh mushrooms, then going on to violets and other flowers. Dark fruit, too. Full-bodied, yet agile and fine, with a linear flow of tannins that run through the center of palate. The finesse of the tannins is exceptional, like raw silk and changing all the time. Cool and energetic, yet reserved. Zen-like. 37% of the production and 90% cabernet sauvignon, 7% merlot, 2% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot. So well balanced that you can drink it now, but this is one to leave for a decade and more. Ethereal.

Château Margaux 2019 is the “National Beauty and Heavenly Fragrance” in my heart. It is like a well-proportioned and charming landscape painting, representing the masterpiece of the Margaux appellation. The refreshing berry wine flows in the glass just like the spring, tender and crystal clear. The full-bodied wine contains a wealth of details so that you can feel softer and more mellow wine through the layered fruity and aromas. Knowing that it only contains 10% of the Merlot, I felt surprised, I didn’t expect that 90% Cabernet Sauvignon blends could be so pure and mild.

Si Pavillon se voulait plutôt fin, le grand vin se veut surtout complexe avec de nombreuses facettes. Il révèle tant des nuances de baies rouges que de baies noires avec des parfums de myrtilles et de mûres complétées par la fraîcheur du Cabernet Sauvignon. En bouche le vin se distingue par sa finesse, par son côté ciselé, puissant et élégant. Il est doté d’une saine vigueur, qu’il sait parfaitement maîtriser et d’une structure acide qui emballe l’ampleur tout en conférant de la fraîcheur. Donc, une très belle symbiose entre la puissance et le tempérament. Un vin qui a de la texture, du caractère et de la sérénité et de la finesse. Ça reste certainement un des Bordelais les plus bourguignons. 2027-2054.

Couleur sombre, intense et belle. Nez très intense, fin, subtil, profond, noble, complexe. Une merveille de délicatesse ! Cette intensité aromatique accompagnée d’une odeur de framboise et de réglisse rappelle tant le Musigny. En bouche tout suit. La pulpe en premier, le parfum qui persiste à jamais, le corps très présent et pourtant aérien, la finale tout en douceur, sans une once de tannin et d’un hédonisme fou. Et après ? Un autre verre s’il vous plaît. Assemblage : 90 % cabernet sauvignon, 7 % merlot, 2 % cabernet franc, 1 % petit verdot. Degré d’alcool : 13°9 – pH : 3,66. Rendement : 47 hl/ha. Proportion de premier vin : 37 %. A consommer de préférence entre 2028 et 2055. Mai 2020.
